Heritage

The magnificent past civilisations of the Orient and the Mediterranean produced some truly splendid ceramic tiles. We often admire wonderful examples of these in museums worldwide as well as in well preserved buildings. Our passion for ceramics was inspired by these antique examples.

We have developed a unique collection of tiles which reflect the ancient designs and colors of historic masterpieces. Our craftsmen hand paint each individual tile using the same skills as in the past.

Hoping to share with you the subtle refinements of the Orient and the sunlit shades of the Mediterranean.

The Ancestral Technique

The tile pattern is first silk screened with a dark color and then the rest of the colors are hand painted on the glazed but not fired tile. For some lines, such Cotto, once all the color are applied, the tile is glazed with transparent Craquele glaze and fired up to 1900 degrees F.

For the Cotto and Zellige lines, the earthenware biscuit is hand molded.

Stunning tiles! Very nice colour!

Cotto

The line owes its name to wonderful Terracotta or "Baked Earth" originating from Sicily, Southern Italy. The subtle mixture of clay and volcanic lava sand gives this hand molded Cott qualities of crystallization in fire that magnifies pigments and glazes conferring them luster intensity. The Craquelé glaze applied to the hand painted decoration gives the object a remarkable depth evoking the magic of old tiles.
